Controller Setup Guide
This is an advanced setup. The Animus Injector already fixes the controller input for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed Revelations. Use this guide if the default fix does not work and/or if you'd like to rebind your buttons (e.g., for Assassin's Creed III).
This guide uses Steam Input, the controller system built into Steam, to present your Controller to the game as an Xbox 360 Controller. It works with Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro and most generic Controllers, and also lets you rebind buttons for the game. Keep in mind that those games may not display correct button icons for your Controller or binding configuration.
Steam
You need the Steam client installed and logged in. This does not mean you need to own the games exclusively on Steam.
Step 1: Add Animus Launcher to your Steam Library
Steam can only apply Steam Input to games or applications it launches itself, so add Animus Launcher as a non-Steam game/app.
- Open Steam
- At the bottom left of the Steam window, click on + Add a Game and select Add a Non-Steam Game...
(Alternatively, use Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library... in the top menu bar) - A window listing the programs installed on your computer will open.
AnimusLauncher.exeis usually not listed, so click on Browse... - Navigate to your game folder (e.g., where
ACBMP.exeis), selectAnimusLauncher.exeand click on Open - Make sure
AnimusLauncher.exeis checked in the list and click on Add Selected Programs
Animus Launcher now appears in your Steam Library like any other game.
Step 2: Enable Steam Input for Animus Launcher
Steam Input is turned off for Xbox Controllers by default, so enable it for this game/app only.
Your other games will stay unaffected.
- Turn on your Controller and connect it to your system
- In your Steam Library, right-click on Animus Launcher and select Properties...
- Go to the Controller tab
- Set Override for Animus Launcher to Enable Steam Input
- Close the Properties window
Step 3: Rebind your buttons (optional)
The default layout already maps your Controller like an Xbox 360 Controller.
Only follow this step if you want to change it.
- In your Steam Library, right-click on Animus Launcher and select Manage > Controller Layout
(Alternatively, open the game page and click on the controller icon on the right side of the Play bar) - The layout screen for this game opens. Click on Edit Layout
- Select the button, trigger or stick you want to change and choose its new binding
- Close the layout screen. Your changes are saved automatically and only apply to Animus Launcher
Step 4: Launch the Animus Launcher through Steam
- Start Animus Launcher from your Steam Library by clicking on Play
- Launch the multiplayer from the launcher as usual
AnimusLauncher.exe directly from your game folder skips it.
Step 5: Select your controller in the multiplayer main menu
- Navigate to Options > Controls > Customize Controls > Controller
- Either select
Xinput Controller 1orController (XBOX 360 For Windows)
- Navigate to Data Hub > Options > Controls > Controller
- Either select
Xinput Controller 1orController (XBOX 360 For Windows)
- Navigate to News and Data > Options > Controls > Controller
- Either select
Xinput Controller 1orController (XBOX 360 For Windows) - Enable Hot Swapping allowing the game to automatically switch between input devices during gameplay (optional)
Controller (XBOX 360 For Windows).
Select the one which is displaying the correct Xbox buttons: A, B, X, Y, etc.
- Keep Steam running while playing and always start the game from your Steam Library
- Press Shift + Tab in-game. If the Steam overlay does not open, the game was not started through Steam
-
Follow these steps if you encounter issues:
- Exit the game
- Disconnect your Controller
- Check that Enable Steam Input is still set in Step 2
- Reconnect your Controller
- Launch the Animus Launcher from your Steam Library
- Disable Use XInput Fix inside the Animus Launcher under the Animus Injector config settings (ACB & ACR only)
- Check out the Help page
